Nils Frahm - Graz

"Graz" is a contemplative solo piano album by Nils Frahm, recorded in 2009 at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, as part of the thesis "Conversations for Piano and Room" produced by Thomas Geiger. Initially shelved in favor of other projects, the album was released on March 29, 2021, to coincide with Piano Day, an annual celebration Frahm co-founded in 2015. The nine tracks, including "Hammers" and "Went Missing," showcase a younger Frahm's introspective and raw expression, capturing the nuances of grand piano acoustics in a three-dimensional soundscape. Frahm described the recordings as "a much younger version of myself," noting that the musical expressions from that time would be impossible for him to replicate today. "Graz" offers listeners an intimate glimpse into the early stages of Frahm's evolving artistry.
