Billow Observatory - Calque / Soliton

Billow Observatory’s second EP, Soliton, builds on last year’s Calque release, expanding the boundaries of ambient music through innovative exploration. Across five enigmatic tracks, contemplation and discovery intertwine, influenced by diverse sounds like Japanese ambient, the subtle dissonance of Pharoah Sanders, and the cool dub of the Scape catalog. The result is a sonic journey reminiscent of solitary night drives, illuminated by bursts of bliss. The duo—Jason Kolb (Michigan, US) and Jonas Munk (Denmark)—began collaborating in 2006, exchanging tracks across the Atlantic and eventually debuting a full-length on Felte in 2012. Originally a side project to their main acts (Auburn Lull and Manual), Billow Observatory has become their primary focus, with four albums to date. Their music has matured over time, reaching a refined level attained by seasoned producers. Today, Billow Observatory stands as a leading force in ambient music, and the Soliton EP seamlessly blends vintage and modern, electronic and organic, creating a gently immersive experience.
