Originally released on Ezekiel Honig's Anticipate label in 2007, Standing on a Hummingbird is the debut album by Canadian sound artist Mark Templeton, now available on vinyl for the first time, newly remastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and cut by LUPO. Working at the intersection of post-glitch, electroacoustic ambient and textural minimalism, Templeton builds intimate, patiently unfolding compositions from acoustic sources—fingerpicked guitar, banjo and muted accordion—subtly transformed through granulation, filtering and layers of environmental sound. Rather than obscuring their origins, these delicate processes allow melodies to drift in and out of focus, dissolving into richly detailed atmospheres of birdsong, water, distant streets and open air. Throughout the album, warmth and fragility coexist in quiet balance, with fleeting acoustic figures emerging from softly shifting textures before receding once again.
