Deaf Center - Through Time

Nearly six years after Low Distance, Norwegian duo Deaf Center return with Through Time, their fourth full-length and perhaps their most immersive work to date. Continuing their gradual evolution toward expansive electroacoustic composition, Otto A Totland and Erik K Skodvin embrace longer forms, allowing each piece to unfold with remarkable patience and emotional depth. Totland's piano appears more sparingly than on earlier recordings, its restrained presence lending quiet moments an even greater sense of gravity against Skodvin's vast, enveloping atmospheres, while melodies emerge and dissolve like distant memories, carrying a quiet sense of searching that slowly gives way to serenity and quiet revelation. The album's closing movement shifts into darker, more dynamic territory as pulsing electronics intertwine with rich string arrangements, creating a compelling balance between tension and transcendence. For the first time on a Deaf Center recording, acclaimed British composer Simon Goff contributes violin and viola to the closing piece, "Further," whose hypnotic layers of strings and drones provide a deeply resonant finale. Exploring the elusive nature of time itself, Through Time moves effortlessly between intimacy and grandeur, inviting complete immersion in its slow-moving, beautifully detailed sound world.
