After nearly 3 years since the release of his last album, the Danish electronica artist Rumpistol is now ready to release his third album entitled ”Dynamo”. However, the period in between the last album has not been one of idleness as Rumpistol has been busy running his own label Rump Recordings (founded in 2003), playing numerous concerts, producing a soundtrack and making remixes. In June 2008, the remix for Danish/Pakistani artist Snöleoparden went straight in at number one, chosen by the listeners of the popular radio show ”Det Elektriske Barometer” at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
Since his debut in 2003, Rumpistol has been exploring the borderland between abstract electronica and a more immediate melodic approach. An often eclectic mix that has captured listeners outside the electronic scene too.
This characteristic combination of intricate compositions and catchy melodies is continued on Rumpistols new album ”Dynamo”. Here drum-machines and synths merge effortlessly with more traditional instruments like pianos and strings.
The album is balanced between an introverted expression and a more outward-looking experience, while an ongoing alternation between melancholy and optimism adds a tinge of nostalgia.
This is enhanced by the orchestration and production, which contain references to both new and old electronic music (i.e. glitch, techno, dub (-step) and ambient), yet at the same time pointing towards rock, jazz and classical music.
In it’s structure “Dynamo” is like a fine-meshed net holding the tracks together. Fine details gently slide through the net and become elements leading the way through the music. The result is an imaginative, emotional and warm musical experience, always with a theme or harmonic change so unquestionably “Rumpistolish”.
The artwork for “Dynamo” has been made in collaboration with the graphic collective Bottega Areté, who has contributed to the visual identity of Rumpistol since his debut.
