Me, But Perfect’ is the long awaited debut album from Scottish indie-electronic collective Engine7, following on from the April download single ‘Tempertantrum’. Originally formed as a one-man project by lead provocateur, Glasgow-based Alan McNeill, Engine7 now comprises 6 members with a bass player, backing vocalists and live video artist accompanying McNeill. ‘Me, But Perfect’ delivers an incendiary slice of modern electronic music, heavily laden with stirring post-rock guitar and bass rhythms, staccato beats, dark and broody atmospherics, all coated with a rich layer of glitched up sonic ambience. Conceptually based on the delicate balance between harmony and disorder in the daily life of a new born child, where time and habit combine to impose an almost mechanical structure on the family day, ‘Me, But Perfect’ covers the full spectrum of human emotion and mindset from blissed out serenity to furious agitation, as brutal and beautiful sounds swell like nature, treading the line between paranoia and peace. Variously described as a "dark and gritty style of organic electronica…encompassing shoegaze, ambient and downtempo" and "a triumph for organic instrumentation and digital innovation", Engine7 revel in emotional, electronic music. Their sound has been likened to anyone from Sigur Ros and Mum to Tangerine Dream, and like those artists, Engine7 harnesses an inexplicable quality that manages to connect to your primal heart, touching and emotive, with layer upon layer of detail only revealing themselves upon repeated listens.
